WeTransfer in Comic Sans

WeTransfer, the file-sharing service used by millions of creatives worldwide, adopted Comic Sans MS in its interface. But not as a joke.

The backstory

WeTransfer is known for its artistic loading screens, its collaborations with creatives, and its carefully curated brand image. It’s a tool used daily by graphic designers, art directors, and photographers. People who, for the most part, have very strong opinions about Comic Sans MS.

In 2022, WeTransfer launched the “There’s Nothing Comic About Dyslexia” campaign, deliberately integrating Comic Sans into its interface. The reason: Comic Sans is one of the most readable fonts for people with dyslexia, thanks to its irregular and distinctive letterforms. An unexpected rehabilitation through the door of accessibility.

Why it’s a gem

Because a platform built for creatives chose to defend the world’s most ridiculed font… for a legitimate cause. The contrast between WeTransfer’s usual image (high-end, design-forward, curated) and Comic Sans creates a visual short-circuit, but the message is powerful: before mocking a font, ask yourself who it was designed for.
